Astérix evokes my childhood, and probably yours, too. We know the Gaulish village imagined by René Goscinny and Albert Uderzo by heart: the brawls fought with decidedly un-fresh fish, the Romans sent flying in a flurry of slaps, and the final banquet where laughter accompanies roast boar. Yet with this series, Alain and Fabrice give the adventures of the indomitable Gauls a new dimension while remaining faithful to the original work.

Being part of The Big Fight was a wonderful gift: the chance to write music that means a great deal to me, supported by kind and enthusiastic people. Their encouragement was the magic potion that helped me do my very best. Seeing the whole team moved by the London Symphony Orchestra’s outstanding performance at the recording session was the greatest reward. — Mathieu Alvado
